A battery that charges faster the bigger it gets

A bigger battery usually takes longer to charge. A new quantum battery does the opposite. The larger it gets, the faster it charges. Scientists at CSIRO built the first working prototype. It uses a collective effect where many small units charge together. That teamwork changes the math. If one unit takes one second alone, N units can finish in one over the square root of N seconds. The device is an organic microcavity that traps light. A laser charges it wirelessly. The current version holds a tiny amount of energy for a few nanoseconds. That is six times longer than its charge time. Dr James Quach led the team with researchers from the UK and Italy. They published their work in March 2026.
