The first video of a living colossal squid was just filmed in 2025. Scientists knew this species only from bones and whale stomachs for a hundred years. A tiny teenage squid only a foot long appeared near Antarctica. It swam 600 meters down in the South Sandwich Islands. Researchers saw its arm hooks and color changing skin. These squid can grow 23 feet and weigh 1,100 pounds. They have the biggest eyes of any animal. Expert Kat Bolstad called it one of the most exciting observations.
